“Living the examined life,” said Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, “is a pain in the ass.” Like many other things in human life, it began with one step that led to another and then another and it hasn’t stopped. Today, although Patagonia does not present itself as the model of a responsible company, they have come to realise their environmental and social responsibilities and are acting on them. At Countryside Ski & Climb we think there is a lot we can all learn from Patagonia’s example.
The Britain on Foot Campaign in the UK is spotlighting how we can start to make positive changes fit into our daily routines. It’s not just about getting fit. Exploring the outdoors helps us all to become a little more ‘connected’ with the natural environment. If we can encourage each other to get out and walk more often, then the likelihood is we’ll all appreciate that bit more how important it is to look after our beautiful planet while we have fun on it, in order that it can continue to support us.
